Digital Fortress - Dan Brown

Hi Everyone,

Another must read from Dan Brown. This book is called Digital Fortress and it is about the U.S National Security Agency.

The U.S. National Security Agency is in charge of cracking codes that come through on the internet, and it is a very important job because this is the way that most terrorist plots and other schemes are discovered.

When the National Security Agency's invincible code-breaking machine encounters a mysterious code that it cannot break, the agency calls in its head cryptographer, Susan Fletcher, a brilliant, beautiful mathematician. What she uncovers sends shock waves through the corridors of power. The National Security Agency is being held hostage - not by guns or bombs, but by a code so intelligent that if released would cripple U.S. Intelligence.

Caught in an accelerating tempest of secrecy and lies, Fletcher battles to save the agency she believes in. Betrayed on all sides, she finds herself fighting not only for her country but for her life, and in the end, for the life of the man she loves....

I give Digital Fortress a 10/10. Dan Brown is one of the smartest writers writing today.

Thanks

Angels and Demons

Hello everyone,

After my post on the terrible book 'Rocco' *shudder* I am quite happy to post a post on a much greater book.

Angels and Demons, by Dan Brown is the prequel to The Da Vinci Code. It is a riveting read, and I found it very addictive. MRS. WESTALL, IF YOU'RE HUSBAND HASN'T READ ANGELS AND DEMONS, TELL HIM TO READ IT!!!! AND YOU AS WELL!!!! THANK YOU.

The book is about Robert Langdon from The Da Vinci Code, sent to Rome to investigate another murder. However, just like The Da Vinci Code, the book dives deep down into the history of Rome and its sculptors etc. That is the best part of the book. I find it unimaginably fascinating. It also talks about the 'unfriendliness' shall we say, between the Church and Science.

An awesome read that everyone in the Book Club must read as well. 10/10.

Rocco - Sherryl Jordan

Hi everyone,

Let me put what I think of this book in a simple way:

If this book were a girl, it would turn a straight man gay.

I HATED this book. I was forced to read it for English and thought I wouldn't like it. The book isn't clear at all, and I didn't understand what happened, how and why, which are crucial points for a book. The book doesn't even have a blurb! It only has a passage from the book which isn't very appealing at all to be quite frank.

Rocco by Sherryl Jordan gets a 2/10 from me.

Kind Regards

The Da Vinci Code

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to post something on THE GREATEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN!!! The Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown, is an international bestseller, and for good reason. I would say that this is probably the best book I have ever read. YOUR HUSBAND WAS RIGHT MRS. WESTALL YOU MUST READ THE DA VINCI CODE!

Harvard professor Robert Langdon receives an urgent late-night phone call while on business in Paris: the elderly curator of the Louvre, Jacques Sauniere, has been brutally murdered inside the museum. Alongside the body, police have found a series of baffling codes. As Langdon and a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, begin to sort through the bizarre riddles, they are stunned to find a trail that leads to the works of Leonardo Da Vinci - and suggests the answer the a mystery that stretches deep into the vault of history.

Langdon suspects the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion - a centuries-old secret society - and has sacrificed his life to protect the Priory's most sacred trust: the location of an important religious relic hidden for centuries. But it appears that Opus Dei, a clandestine sect that has long plotted to seize the Priory's secret, has now made its move. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine code and quickly assemble the pieces of the puzzle, the Priory's secret - and a stunning historical truth - will be lost forever.

THIS IS A GREAT BOOK THAT EVERYONE IN THE BOOK CLUB MUST READ!!!

The Exam Skills Handbook

Hey Everyone,

Here is a book that I have read; it isn't a novel, more of a non-fiction reference. It's called The Exam Skills Handbook. It's really helpful with exams, tells you things such as:

  • Revision Strategies

  • Memory: Remembering what we want, when we need it

  • Structured revision sessions

  • Stress, health and performance

  • What examiners are looking for

  • Exam Myths and Legends

I found this book really helpful. It gave me a whole new perspective of exams. The book is by Stella Cottrell and there are other books like this such as 'How to write better essays' and 'The Student's Guide to Writing'. I will put in a request for these other books soon. I have this book out now unfortunately but feel free to put a reservation for it if you wish because I shall be returning it soon.

Many Thanks

Twilight

This is the best book ever! I finished it in one day. It was so good I didnt want to put it down and was reading it through class!
You may have girls in your class completly in love with it, and dont know why. Read this book and you will understand.

I have only met 1 person that did not like it.

This is the first book of the 'Twilight Saga' which is about Edward and Isabella Swan

The Host

The Host, written by Stephenie Meyer (the author of the Twilight Series), is definatley a book worth reading. S. Meyer has said that it is a Sci-Fi book for people who don't like Sci-Fi. Although it get's a bit lovy dovy at times, it is full of a unique type of suspense. I think it is a good book to be read more than once. It is completley different to Twilight etc, but is great anyway.

Try and get around to reading it. You will not be disappointed.
(Although most of the people who have read it say it more for girls, but they were all girls. So who knows...?!)
